Video conferencing tools like Zoom have become extremely popular. This hands-on workshop will teach you how to use Zoom as a meeting participant and host and make the most of its features to facilitate effective and engaging meetings. Learn how to schedule, start, join and run Zoom meetings and explore features including break-out rooms, whiteboards, screen-sharing, recording, live streaming and more. We will also discuss the difference between Zoom meetings and Webinars.

Course Description

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to effectively use Zoom, both as a participant and as a host. Whether you're joining virtual meetings or organising them yourself, this course will cover all the essential features of the platform. You'll gain practical experience scheduling, starting, and running Zoom meetings, as well as utilising advanced features like break-out rooms, screen-sharing, and whiteboards to create engaging and interactive sessions.

Throughout the course, we’ll dive into the specific tools that make Zoom an effective platform for collaboration. You will learn how to manage meeting settings and use recording features. We’ll also cover tips and tricks for smooth meeting facilitation and how to troubleshoot common issues. Additionally, we will compare Zoom Meetings and Webinars, helping you understand when and how to use each format based on your needs.

By the end of the workshop, you will be comfortable using Zoom's features to host and participate in meetings. Whether you're planning team meetings, client calls, or larger webinars, you’ll have the skills to ensure your Zoom sessions run smoothly and efficiently.

During the course we will work through the following topics:

  • Installing the Zoom app on your laptop, tablet or phone
  • Introduction to Zoom meetings and webinars
  • Setting up your Zoom account and basic navigation
  • Scheduling and joining Zoom meetings
  • Zoom meeting settings and managing participants
  • Using breakout rooms for small group discussions
  • How to share your screen, applications, and files
  • Whiteboard and annotation tools for collaboration
  • Recording Zoom meetings and accessing recordings
  • Using chat and reactions to facilitate interactive meetings
  • Tips for running professional and engaging Zoom meetings

There will be ample opportunities for questions.

  • Be confident in using Zoom and managing participants as a meeting host

  • Understand the difference between Zoom Meetings and Webinars and when to use each format
  • Facilitate engaging and interactive meetings using Zoom tools
  • Understand how to troubleshoot common Zoom issues and manage meeting logistics
  • Adjust Zoom's settings to customise and optimise the meeting experience

Course Requirements

It is recommended that students bring their own laptop for an optimal learning experience.

Alternatively, you can participate using a tablet or phone, however you may not be able to access full functionality of the Zoom software when participating this way.

The tutor will help you install the Zoom app if you do not already have it on your device.
