BASKET WEAVING FOR BEGINNERS
Craft
Practical Skills

The culture of weaving in different parts of the world has always been a medium that connected people through heart-based living, spirituality and connection to nature. This basket weaving course is designed to create a safe space to slow down and connect with ourselves as we learn some weaving techniques. The aim of the course is to learn a skill that we can take back with us into our busy world as a tool to keep us grounded and help us slow down. In this course you will learn how to weave a small basket using raffia using the following techniques: creating the starter circle, blanket stitch, wrap stitch, ending the basket and handles. Students are required to purchase kits from the tutor for $35.

Your tutor is Isha Chatterjee

Isha Chatterjee has been teaching at WEA since October 2024.

Isha is an educator by profession and a very passionate one. She truly believes that everyone has the capacity to learn when they feel safe, heard and seen. She is a neuro-affirming educator and will do her best to accommodate every student who walks into her class.

Isha moved to Adelaide to pursue a Master of Teaching (Special Education) at the age of 30. Isha is also an artist and has dabbled in pottery and basket weaving for nearly a decade. She says there is something magical about creating with your hands using clay or raffia, and loves that she can take her bag of raffia and needles anywhere she goes. She says that crafting is a wonderful gift and weaving keeps her in the moment in this very chaotic world.
