Songwriting II – Theory into Practice

Course Description

This dynamic workshop is designed for graduates of WEA’s “Introduction to Songwriting” course who are ready to bring their musical ideas to life.

Songwriting II – Theory into Practice provides a supportive, collaborative environment where participants can apply their songwriting knowledge in real time.

Guided by an experienced facilitator, you’ll explore creative prompts, develop new material, and work in small groups to refine your lyrical and melodic ideas.

Whether you’re building on a half-written chorus or starting fresh, this session helps bridge the gap between theory and tangible results.

Throughout the day, you’ll engage in a series of hands-on activities from writing exercises and idea generation to collaborative drafting, performance, and feedback.

You’ll gain insights into how songs evolve through feedback and teamwork and leave with fresh material and a clearer sense of your artistic direction.

Instruments are welcome but not required, just bring your creativity and enthusiasm.

Course Structure

The workshop begins with an overview and group introductions, setting the tone for a supportive, respectful environment.

After forming songwriting groups based on participants’ strengths and goals, you’ll dive into practical writing prompts designed to spark ideas and develop first drafts.

Following a group review session, you’ll incorporate feedback, refine your work, and prepare for a short performance segment where you’ll share your creations.

The day concludes with wrap-up discussions, verbal feedback, and the sharing of additional resources for further development.
