This course shows you via pictures and also text how to create and set up your MYOB file properly. In order to do so, each chapter steps you through the correct procedures and the end result enables you to produce "meaningful reports". Included in the book are practice files for you to revisit your learning. The fee also includes your text book. The course does not require accounting or bookkeeping knowledge, however in order to make the most of this course the accounting jargon will be explained in "plain English" citing examples by the tutor.

Course Description

MYOB (Mind Your Own Business) is powerful accounting software widely used by small to medium-sized businesses, freelancers, and bookkeepers to manage financial tasks such as invoicing, payroll, and financial reporting. Whether you’re a business owner, manager, or someone interested in developing practical accounting skills, understanding how to use MYOB can make a significant difference in your operations.

This course is designed to benefit anyone who wants to gain confidence in navigating MYOB software, from beginners to those looking to sharpen their skills. Even if you plan to outsource your bookkeeping, having a solid understanding of MYOB allows you to communicate more effectively with your bookkeeper, oversee your financial data, and make informed decisions based on the reports generated. Knowing how to properly use MYOB ensures you can track your business's financial health with accuracy, saving time and money in the long run.

There will be ample opportunity for questions throughout the course and a textbook will be provided which is included in the course fee.

Course Structure

There are many versions of MYOB available to consumers.  The version used in class is MYOB AccountRight which can be used locally (stored on the computer) or online (in the cloud), however the class version will be stored on the computer. 

With practical, hands-on exercises and clear explanations of accounting concepts in everyday language, this course will empower you to get the most out of MYOB. You will not only learn how to set up your system correctly, but you’ll also build the confidence to interpret your financial data, even if you choose to hire a professional to manage your books. Ultimately, this course provides you with the knowledge and tools to take full control of your business finances.

Course Learning Outcomes

The course will systematically take you through constructing a file and students will learn the following:

  • Adding, editing and deleting accounts to be used later for transaction processing;
  • Adding customer and supplier details (properly), including address, contact details, ABN, sales and purchase terms;
  • Adding stock items used for purchasing, selling and keeping as store stock;
  • Entering purchases and sales as well as customer and supplier payments;
  • Reconciling the bank account ie. checking the transactions entered in MYOB versus what appears on the bank statement; and
  • Financial reporting and how to read the financials and make executive decisions.

Your Tutor is Tamara Wagner

Tamara Wagner (Definitive Accounting) has taught at the WEA since 1999.

Tamara graduated as an accountant in 1994 from Adelaide TAFE after which she became accredited in MYOB, QuickBooks, QuickPOS, Quicken, Reckon and Xero. She thoroughly enjoys the personal interaction with her students. Her attention to detail, openness in communicating, friendly nature and extensive network with other accountants makes her one of the more approachable and sought after trainers in South Australia.
