Italian 1 Intensive is a fast-paced course designed for students who already have some familiarity with Italian.
It is ideal for those from an Italian-speaking background, students who have studied Italian previously, or speakers of Spanish or other Latin-based languages who are looking to build on their existing language skills.
This condensed version of the year-long Italian 1 course focuses on strengthening both practical communication and the grammar that underpins everyday Italian.
It is not suitable for complete beginners.
Whether you're planning a trip to Italy, reconnecting with your heritage, or simply wanting to communicate more confidently in Italian, this engaging course will help you develop greater fluency and understanding.
Through practical conversation, interactive activities and guided grammar exercises, you'll gain confidence using Italian in everyday social and travel situations while building a solid foundation for further study.
Course Structure
This intensive course combines practical conversation with structured grammar instruction in a dynamic and supportive classroom environment.
Students will revise and strengthen the fundamentals of Italian pronunciation, the alphabet and sentence structure before exploring essential grammar concepts including nouns, adjectives, articles and common verbs such as essere, avere and chiamarsi.
Throughout the course, students will apply these concepts through speaking, listening and interactive classroom activities, with a stronger emphasis on conversation practice than the standard Italian 1 course.
By regularly using Italian in realistic situations, students will build both confidence and accuracy while developing a deeper understanding of how the language works.

Tony Iammarrone BFin, MBus (Acc), DipCA has been teaching at WEA since 2024.
Tony started his career as a Chartered Accountant working for various public practice firms, which led to forming his own Chartered Accounting Practice. Eventually he moved out of this area and started private tutoring in various subjects for secondary school and early university students.
Tony’s family spoke Italian at home when he was young. His grandparents didn’t speak English, and his parents were learning English at the time. He was raised bilingual, learning English at school. During his schooling years Tony also attended Centro Didattico, an educational centre focused on teaching students with an Italian background.
